Ultra-modern house plan readied for prime time

“People have cautioned us to make the home ‘kind of modern,’ but not wholly modern,” explained Varsity’s Production Manager Tim Kangas. “They also suggested toning-down the sleek interiors and smooth-faced cabinets and overthe- top faucets…but in the end we had to decide either to make a commitment to offer a truly modern through-and-through look, or not.
And we decided to go for the look desired by the architecture team,” he said. The new line of homes currently is being developed between Portland-based SRM Architecture and local home building drafter JR Vogtman with Varsity’s Leslie Savitch acting as arbiter of the historically conservative Eastern Washington home buyer.
Three plans are being readied in time for the Parade of Homes planned for the second and third weekends of September. The home that will provide the “wow” and inspiration for the concept of the ULTRA Modern Homes product line (the company’s name for the new family of homes) will be a 2700 s.f. “concept home” being readied in the Oasis Neighborhood located in West Richland, part of the Collins Ridge subdivision.
